[Light the candles, the cover your eyes and recite the blessing. Traditionally the woman of the home lights the candles and as she says the blessing she waves her hands over the candles as if bringing the light to her.]
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָֽׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו, וְצִוָּֽנוּ לְהַדְלִיק נֵר שֶׁל שַׁבָּת.
Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu melech ha-olam, asher kid’shanu b’mitzvotav, v’tzivanu l’hadlik neir shel shabat.
“Blessed are You, HaShem, our God, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with His commandments, and has commanded us to kindle the lights of the Sabbath.”

Y’hi ratzon l’fanecha, Adonai elohai veilohai avotai, shet’chonein oti v’et ishi, v’et banai, v’et b’notai, v’et avi, v’et imi v’et ko k’rovai, v’titen lanu ul’chol yisra-eil chayim tovim va-aruchim, v’tizk’reinu b’zichron tovah uv’rachah, v’tifk’deinu bifkudat y’shuah v’rachamim, ut’var’cheinu b’rachot g’dolot, v’tashlim bateinu, v’tashkein sh’chinat’cha beineinu. V’zakeini l’gadeil banim uv’nei vanim chachamim un’vonim, ohavei Adonai, yirei elohim, anshei emet, zera kodesh, b’Adonai d’veikim, um’irim et ha-olam batorah uv’ma-asim tovim, uv’chol m’lechet avodat haborei. Ana sh’ma et t’chinati ba-eit hazot, bizchut sarah v’rivkah v’racheil v’lei-ah imoteinu, v’ha-eir neireinu shelo yichbeh l’olam va-ed, v’ha-eir panecha v’nivashei-ah. Amein.
“May it be Your will HaShem, my God and the God of my forefathers, that You show favor to me [my husband, my sons, my daughters, my father, my mother] and all my relatives; and that You grant us and all Israel a good long life; that You remember us with a beneficent memory and blessing; that You consider us with a consideration of salvation and compassion; that You bless us with great blessings; that You make our households complete; that You cause Your presence to dwell among us. Privilege me to raise children and grandchildren who are wise and understanding, who love God and fear God, people of truth, holy offspring, attached to God, who illuminate the world with Torah and good deeds and with every labor in the service of the Creator. Please, hear my supplication at this time, in the merit of Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah, our mothers, and cause our light to illuminate that it be not extinguished forever, and let Your countenance shine so that we are saved. A Family Prayer
We thank You, HaShem, for enabling us to welcome this Shabbat day together.
We are grateful for the happiness of our home and for our caring and loving family.
We are thankful for the blessings of the past week:
For life and health, for laughter and friendship;
For the opportunity to work, to learn, and to grow.
Where these have been lacking, may the coming week be better.
We pray that the peacefulness of Shabbat will refresh and inspire us so that the week ahead will be one of blessing and accomplishment for each of us.

On Shabbat we share the holiness at the heart of time. Eternity utters a day.
We celebrate Creation; we celebrate the sacredness of time.
We sanctify Shabbat with all our senses; body and soul partake of Shabbat.
Struggle and dissonance are forgotten; we are embraced by peace and wholeness.
Eternity utters a day. Shabbat is a temple in time.
Shabbat is holiness in time, the presence of eternity, a moment of majesty, the radiance of joy.
We are reminded of our royalty, raised to nobility by our exalted Sovereign.
Shabbat ennobles, enhances, it nourishes the seed of eternity planted in our soul.
Shabbat is a gift of dignity and rest, of holiness, splendor, and delight.
Eternity utters a day. We bask in the radiance of redemption.
Shabbat is a taste of the Olam Haba (World to Come), a time of peace, tranquility, harmony, and joy.
In a time to come the promise of paradise will be restored, a messianic covenant of peace to bind all creatures.
We are grateful for the gift of this Shabbat as we anticipate the time when all will be Shabbat.
A Shabbat Meditation
Dear HaShem, help us on this Shabbat to still the sound of our own striving, so we can hear more clearly the music of Your presence. Teach us that this divine moment of tranquility can bring us harmony and a melody to uplift our soul and renew our spirit. Bless our Shabbat rest, so that by seeking and serving You, by immersing ourselves in the timeless rhythm of Your holy day, we can better fulfill in the coming week the purpose for which You gave us life. Amen.

Psalm 97
The Lord is king! Let the earth exult, the many islands rejoice! 2Dense clouds are around Him,
righteousness and justice are the base of His throne. 3Fire is His vanguard, burning His foes on every side. 4His lightnings light up the world; the earth is convulsed at the sight; 5mountains melt like wax at the Lord’s presence, at the presence of the Lord of all the earth. 6The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples see His glory. 7All who worship images, who vaunt their idols, are dismayed; all divine beings bow down to Him. 8Zion, hearing it, rejoices, the townsa of Judah exult, because of Your judgments, HaShem. 9For You, Lord, are supreme over all the earth; You are exalted high above all divine beings. 10O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He guards the lives of His loyal ones, saving them from the hand of the wicked. 11Light is sown for the righteous, radianceb for the upright. 12O you righteous, rejoice in the Lord and acclaim His holy name!

Psalm 98
A psalm. Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has worked wonders; His right hand, His holy arm, has won Him victory. 2The Lord has manifested His victory, has displayed His triumph in the sight of the nations. 3He was mindful of His steadfast love and faithfulness toward the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth beheld the victory of our God. 4Raise a shout to the Lord, all the earth, break into joyous songs of praise! 5Sing praise to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and melodious song. 6With trumpets and the blast of the horn raise a shout before the Lord, the king. 7Let the sea and all within it thunder, the world and its inhabitants; 8let the rivers clap their hands, the mountains sing joyously together 9at the presence of the Lord, for He is coming to rule the earth; He will rule the world justly, and its peoples with equity.

V’oz melech mishpat aheiv, atah konanta meisharim, mishpat utz’dakah b’ya-akov atah asita. Rom’mu Adonai Eloheinu, v’hishtachavu lahadom raglav, kadosh hu. Mosheh v’aharon b’chohanav, ush’mueil b’kor’ei sh’mo, koriym el Adonai v’hu ya-aneim. B’amud anan y’dabeir aleihem, sham’ru eidotav v’chok natan lamo. אֵֽשֶׁת חַֽיִל מִי יִמְצָא, וְרָחֹק מִפְּנִינִים מִכְרָהּ. בָּֽטַח בָּהּ לֵב בַּעְלָהּ, וְשָׁלָל לֹא יֶחְסָר. גְּמָלַֽתְהוּ טוֹב וְלֹא רָע, כֹּל יְמֵי חַיֶּֽיהָ. דָּרְשָׁה צֶֽמֶר וּפִשְׁתִּים, וַתַּֽעַשׂ בְּחֵֽפֶץ כַּפֶּֽיהָ. הָיְתָה כָּאֳנִיּוֹת סוֹחֵר, מִמֶּרְחָק תָּבִיא לַחְמָהּ. וַתָּֽקָם בְּעוֹד לַֽיְלָה, וַתִּתֵּן טֶֽרֶף לְבֵיתָהּ, וְחֹק לְנַעֲרֹתֶֽיהָ. זָמְמָה שָׂדֶה וַתִּקָּחֵֽהוּ, מִפְּרִי כַפֶּֽיהָ נָֽטְעָה כָּֽרֶם. חָגְרָה בְעֹז מָתְנֶֽיהָ, וַתְּאַמֵּץ זְרוֹעֹתֶֽיהָ. טָעֲמָה כִּי טוֹב סַחְרָהּ, לֹא יִכְבֶּה בַלַּֽיְלָה נֵרָהּ. יָדֶֽיהָ שִׁלְּחָה בַכִּישׁוֹר, וְכַפֶּֽיהָ תָּֽמְכוּ פָֽלֶךְ. כַּפָּהּ פָּרְשָׂה לֶעָנִי, וְיָדֶֽיהָ שִׁלְּחָה לָאֶבְיוֹן. לֹא תִירָא לְבֵיתָהּ מִשָּֽׁלֶג, כִּי כָל בֵּיתָהּ לָבֻשׁ שָׁנִים. מַרְבַדִּים עָֽשְׂתָה לָּהּ, שֵׁשׁ וְאַרְגָּמָן לְבוּשָׁהּ. נוֹדָע בַּשְּׁעָרִים בַּעְלָהּ, בְּשִׁבְתּוֹ עִם זִקְנֵי אָֽרֶץ. סָדִין עָשְׂתָה וַתִּמְכֹּר, וַחֲגוֹר נָתְנָה לַכְּנַעֲנִי. עֹז וְהָדָר לְבוּשָׁהּ, וַתִּשְׂחַק לְיוֹם אַחֲרוֹן. פִּֽיהָ פָּתְחָה בְחָכְמָה, וְתֽוֹרַת חֶֽסֶד עַל לְשׁוֹנָהּ. צוֹפִיָּה הֲלִיכוֹת בֵּיתָהּ, וְלֶֽחֶם עַצְלוּת לֹא תֹאכֵל. קָֽמוּ בָנֶֽיהָ וַיְאַשְּׁרֽוּהָ, בַּעְלָהּ וַיְהַלְלָהּ. רַבּוֹת בָּנוֹת עָֽשׂוּ חָֽיִל, וְאַתְּ עָלִית עַל כֻּלָּֽנָה. שֶֽׁקֶר הַחֵן וְהֶֽבֶל הַיֹּֽפִי, אִשָּׁה יִרְאַת יְיָ הִיא תִתְהַלָּל. תְּנוּ לָהּ מִפְּרִי יָדֶֽיהָ, וִיהַלְלֽוּהָ בַשְּׁעָרִים מַעֲשֶֽׂיהָ.
Eishet chayil mi yimtza, v’rachok mip’ninim michrah. Batach bah leiv balah, v’shalal lo yechsar.
G’malathu tov v’lo ra, kol y’mei chayeha. Dar’shah tzemer ufishtim, vata-as b’cheifetz kapeha.
Hay’tah ka-oniyot socheir, mimerchak tavi lachmah. Vatakom b’od laylah, vatitein teref l’veitah, v’chok l’na-aroteha. Zam’mah sadeh vatikacheihu, mip’ri chapeha nat’ah karem.
Chag’rah v’oz mot’neha, vat’ameitz z’ro-oteha. Ta-amah ki tov sachrah, lo yichbeh valaylah neirah.
Yadeha shil’chah vakishor, v’chapeha tam’chu falech. Kapah par’sah le-ani, v’yadeha shil’chah la-evyon. Lo tira l’veitah mishaleg, ki chol beitah lavush shanim. Marvadim as’tah lah, sheish v’argaman l’vushah. Noda basharim balah, b’shivto im ziknei aretz. Sadin as’tah vatimkor, vachagor nat’nah lak’na-ani. Oz v’hadar l’vushah, vatischak l’yom acharon. Piha pat’chah v’choch’mah, v’torat chesed al l’shonah. Tzofiyah halichot beitah, v’lechem atzlut lo tocheil. Kamu vaneha vay’ashruha, balah vay’hal’lah. Rabot banot asu chayil, v’at alit al kulanah. Sheker hachein v’hevel hayofi, ishah yirat Adonai hi tithalal. T’nu lah mip’ri yadeha, vihal’luha vasharim ma-aseha.

א 10What a rare find is a capable wife!
Her worth is far beyond that of rubies.
ב 11Her husband puts his confidence in her,
And lacks no good thing.
ג 12She is good to him, never bad,
All the days of her life.
ד 13She looks for wool and flax,
And sets her hand to them with a will.
ה 14She is like a merchant fleet,
Bringing her food from afar.
ו 15She rises while it is still night,
And supplies provisions for her household,
The daily fare of her maids.
ז 16She sets her mind on an estate and acquires it;
She plants a vineyard by her own labors.
ח 17She girds herself with strength,

Her lamp never goes out at night.

Her fingers work the spindle.
כ 20She gives generously to the poor;

מ 22She makes covers for herself;
Her clothing is linen and purple.
נ 23Her husband is prominent in the gates,
As he sits among the elders of the land.
ס 24She makes cloth and sells it,
And offers a girdle to the merchant.
ע 25She is clothed with strength and splendor;
She looks to the future cheerfully.
פ 26Her mouth is full of wisdom,
Her tongue with kindly teaching.
צ 27She oversees the activities of her household
And never eats the bread of idleness.
ק 28Her children declare her happy;
Her husband praises her,
ר 29“Many women have done well,
But you surpass them all.”
ש 30Grace is deceptive,
Beauty is illusory;
It is for her fear of the Lord
That a woman is to be praised.
ת 31Extol her for the fruit of her hand,
And let her works praise her in the gates.[1]

And there was evening and there was morning;
The sixth day. Thus the heavens and earth were finished, and all their array. On the seventh day HaShem completed His work which He had done, and He abstained on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. HaShem blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it He abstained from all His work which HaShem created to make.

Blessed are You, HaShem, our God, King of the universe, Who creates the fruit of the vine. (Amen)
Blessed are You, HaShem, our God, King of the universe, Who sanctified us with His commandments, took pleasure in us, and with love and favor gave us His Holy Sabbath as a heritage, a remembrance of creation. For that day is the prologue to the holy convocations, a memorial of the Exodus from Egypt. For us did You choose and us did You sanctify from all the nations. And Your Holy Sabbath, with love and favor did You give us a heritage. Blessed are You, HaShem, Who sanctifies the Sabbath.
